The City of Talent in Jackson County, Oregon lies right off Interstate 5 Exit 21 and Oregon Route 99. The city is only a short drive away from Ashland, Medford, Phoenix, and Jacksonville. It occupies 1.32 square miles and has around 6,349 permanent residents.
Talent is chock-full of charm and offers spectacular views of the nearby Rogue River Valley and the Siskiyou Mountains.
Summer temperatures soar to around 65 to 110 degrees during the day and dip as evening falls. During winter, expect fog and snow with temperatures varying from 20 to 65 degrees.

More about the City of Talent
- Talent was originally going to be named Wagner after the town’s first settler, Jacob Wagner. It was changed to Talent in honor of A.P. Tallent, the resident who platted the city in the 1880s.
- Earlier names of the town were Wagner Creek and Eden District before it officially changed its name to Talent.
- People from all over the country used to flock to Talent to settle in the Bear Creek Valley farmlands.The local Phoenix-Talent School District serves Talent, Phoenix, and Medford. The five schools that make up the district are:
- Phoenix Elementary
- Talent Elementary
- Orchard Hill Elementary
- Talent Middle School
- Phoenix High School
- Ashland Daily Tidings and the Medford Mail Tribune are Talent’s area newspapers. The city also has a monthly newsletter that’s part of the local publication called the Talent News & Review.
- The town works hard to preserve its historical roots while developing its economy and infrastructure. The Urban Renewal Agency and Historical Society work together to ensure the town keeps its competitive edge with neighboring cities while conserving its rich history.

The Harvest Festival happens on the first Saturday of October. The annual festival brings the whole community together for a day filled with music, food, crafts, and more. The festival also mounts a parade that passes through Main Street.
Other events include a community-wide yard sale that happens every May. During the same month, residents are encouraged to participate in the Green-Up, Clean-Up drive to help maintain the city’s surroundings.

Talent’s ideal location close to the Siskiyou Mountains means residents have plenty of opportunities to go skiing, hiking, and biking.
